Can't add mounted SMB folders to playlist

I have a NAS with a music folder mounted via SMB on my desktop. I can browse the the folders and play the individual mp3 files in Audacious, but when I try to add the folder to the playlist I get the following error:
Error reading smb://user@ds1618.local/MUSIC:
Operation not supported
I've tried adding via the "Add Folder" and "Add URL" menu options but always the same. How can I import all the 10,000+ tracks into the playlist?
