Audacious 3.6 and Ubuntu 14.04
Added by Dave Frandin over 9 years ago
I use Audacious to play shoutcast streaming stations, and the install of Audacious 3.6 from the Ubuntu repos has worked perfectly since installing the OS
on the current system nearly a year ago. In the last several days, I've gotten several system updates, and I'm now seeing Audacious start normally, but die
with a segfault when I attempt to play a shoutcast stream. While troubleshooting this issue, I found that if I set the program config to use either the gtk or
qt interface, the program works normally. This is kind of annoying, as I normally use the winamp classic interface with the winamp5 skin (I used to use winamp
on Windows and liked the winamp5 classic look-so sue me :) Anyway, if I switch to the winamp classic interface, the program immediately segfaults with the
following:
May 22 18:06:36 sluggo kernel: [21463.784957] audacious4512: segfault at 0 ip 00007f7952df927d sp 00007ffc85f5bbd8 error 4 in libc-2.19.so[7f7952d58000+1bb000]
I've tried doing a remove/purge of the program with Synaptic and the problem persists... Help!!

Get a backtrace for the devs: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace
Make sure you have audacious-dbg and libc6-dbg installed.
Also, note that audacious 3.6 is not in the official 14.04 repos, so please tell us what PPA (or other source) you're obtaining the package from.

Thanks for the reply.. While installing audacious-dbg, it appears thats coming from http://ppa.launchpad.net/mc3man/trusty-media/ubuntu/.. Will get backtrace in a couple of days when I get access
to the system other than via ssh...

Found a spare hour to try and get a backtrace.. I forgot how much of a pain in the butt backtraces are.. So I just removed the above PPA for 3.6 and installed 3.4.3 from the Ubuntu
repos... Works fine now... Must have been some strangeness in 3.6 and the last Ubuntu updates I got... Problem solved.. Don't know why I had that 3rd party repo in there, its gone
now...
