Very ugly GTK-themed interface on 3.2.1

Added by medulla medulla over 12 years ago

Hello,

I recently did an upgrade to v. 3.2.1 of my favorite music player and was very unhappy finding out that the GTK theme was totally ugly and has nothing to do with the sleek and elegant look of Audacious on the screenshot here: http://audacious-media-player.org/
I'm with Kubuntu Oneiric and until the upgrade everything was perfect with the appearing of the player.

I don't like old Winamp skins and prefer the GTK appearance, but most of all I like my desktop looking beautiful. :)) Is there anything I could do with that or I should switch to a different music player?

Would be very thankful if advised. :))

BR.

Hi!

The look of the audacious GTK UI is determined by your GTK theme. Audacious doesn't use a separate GTK theme, this is a "global" thing: all GTK-based GUIs use the same theme on your system (with your user).

To make audacious look like on the screenshot you linked, you have to use that GTK theme. This is independent of audacious.

You can try editing ~/.gtkrc-2.0 manually, or use a graphical configuration software (gnome contains one by default, I don't remember its name).

Hi,

Many thanks on your prompt reply! :)

I have always been using one and the same GTK theme and never have had such issues (if I could use that word) with the player.
In the attached file you can see how it looks now, and believe me it was completely different (I mean in a good way) before that upgrade.

Also, I am not good at editing in Linux, neither at using a graphical configuration software, just thought that there could be something simple
to do to have that look back. Anyways, Audacious still is one of the utmost media players out there! :)))

That's Raleigh, the default GTK theme.

You could try to install "gtk-theme-switch" (it is available under Ubuntu, according to launchpad: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk-theme-switch), and simply change your GTK theme with it. I don't think this could be done easier than this.

Thank you, will try that later and will share an opinion. :)

Probably you are using a GTK theme that is not compatible with GTK 3. (The one shown on the home page is called "Adwaita" and comes with Gnome 3.)

What audacious version were you using before?
