Audacious can't find some albums in Search

Added by kent williams almost 3 years ago

This has happened to me before, but it just happened again & it's driving me nuts.

This one (if that matters) https://componentrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/for-peace-against-war-who-is-not-a-compilation-for-the-people-of-ukraine

I downloaded the FLAC version.

If I search on the album title "For Peace. Against War. Who Is Not? A Compilation For The People Of Ukraine" It doesn't show the album in the search results.

It does return the first 20 tracks on that album.

So how do I trick Audacious into finding this album?

Failing that, can the Audacious Search return more than 20 results?

Have you tried refreshing your library? On the bottom left, at the bottom of the "search tool" panel, there is a "refresh" icon next to the place you enter the location of the library. You need to click it to get new items to appear in your library.

Also, make sure the file you want to play is in your audio library folder.

When I search for album titles or artist names, the albums appear at the top of the search list. Perhaps there is something unique about the metadata in these files that is causing them not to be grouped together. I see that the album has an artist of "various artists." Could it be that the artists being different is causing the album not to show up as one single group?

OK, sorry for triple posting, but I have found the problem. The album must have not just a matching album name but also a matching artist name in order to be grouped as a single album. I confirmed this by finding a similar album with one song of a different artist and when I clicked on the album it only showed the tracks with the one artist but not the different one.

This is helpful in the case that two different artists happen to create two albums with the same title, but it is inconvenient in a compilation album like this with hundreds of different artists.

I haven't found a solution for the entire problem, but I did locate the place to change the number of results in each search. In the menu bar, go to Services > Plugins. Then, click on the arrow next to "General" to open it and locate the gear icon next to "Search Tool." Within that setting, you can change the number of search results displayed to as many as you like.

What about manually (one time) gather all the songs you want in your virtual "album" into a specific subdirectory by themselves (either the files themselves or symlinks), along (optionally) with the album-cover image to that dirctory and name it "cover.[jpg|png|gif]" whatever it is, and use that directory as your "album"?

Regards,

Jim
