Channeling Audacious audio output to Big Jambox Bluetooth speaker

Added by Chandra Chandrasekhar over 7 years ago

I run Audacious on KDE on a Manjaro-based Linux distribution. I want the output to be channelled to a Big Jambox Bluetooth speaker paired to my PC. But I cannot make it happen yet with Audacious.

On the Audacious menu I have:

Output -> Audio Settings -> "PulseAudio Output" as the output plugin.

FYI, the pulseaudio-bluetooth and pulseaudio-alsa Manjaro packages are installed on my system.

I also have the KDE systemsettings with the Jambox as the selected device for music output.

With VLC, I can select Jambox as the output device and hear music from it. So, the KDE systemsettings are likely to be correct.

How might I get Audacious to output the music to my Jambox speaker?

Is there a plugin that will allow this?

Or is there some other way to respect the KDE systmesettings where Jambox is the default output device?

Thank you.

On GNOME, pavucontrol is the preferred tool to redirect an application's output to a particular device. It should work in KDE as well (though I would have expected KDE to have something similar built-in already).

Thank you for pointing out pavucontrol.

Apparently, from what I have observed today, the KDE settings do not overwrite pavucontrol.

Here is what I did in order to get Audacious to play on the Jambox:

I went to Configuration and turned off the digital stereo and analog stereo devices from my motherboard, and activated the High Fidelity Playback on the Jambox. I was then able to get the audio output from Audacious on the Jambox.

Interestingly, selecting Jambox on the Output Devices tab without tinkering with the Configuration does not work.

Thank you for solving the problem. How does one mark this thread solved?

For the record, I now realize that KDE systemsettings does allow me to accomplish the same output device selections as pavucontrol. Here is how it is done:

Switch off the builtin audio devices and activate Jambox in

Audio -> Sound -> Configuration

Then ensure proper selections in

KDE System Settings -> Audio -> Audio -> Audio Playback

KDE System Settings -> Audio -> Audio -> Audio Hardware Setup
