Audacious won't install plugins

Added by Christopher Havel about 10 years ago

Hello!

I'm using Audacious 3.3.1 on X-Slacko Puppy 1.0, a community derivative of Slacko Puppy 5.6 (the primary difference being that X-Slacko uses XFCE and Slacko 5.6 uses JWM). This is a Puppy Linux distro which is also compatible with Slackware *.txz packages.

I want to install Adplug so that I can listen to some *.lds (Loudness) files from an old old old DOS game.

I downloaded and installed adplug-2.2.1-i486-3sl.txz as well as adplug-xmms-1.2-i486-5sl.txz. Audacious didn't recognize the plugins. I symlinked the installed libs to /usr/lib/audacious/Input (libs are libadplug-2.2.1.so.0.0.0 and libadplug.xmms). Did not work. Then I deleted the symlinks and copied those libs directly into that same folder -- did not work, either.

I also have a libmodplugxmms.so in there that it's not recognizing.

What am I doing wrong, or not doing that I should be?

Thanks in advance.

What makes you believe that Audacious would be binary-compatible with XMMS?

I swear I read somewhere that it was. Of course I can't find it now :(

So are there AdPlug and ModPlug plugins that will work with Audacious? ...or, for that matter, any plugin that will let me use Audacious to play *.lds (Loudness) files and some common tracker files (particularly *.mod and *.s3m)?

Audacious has not been plugin-compatible with XMMS for many years already. Historically, it had started as a fork of Beep Media Player (BMP) which had been a fork of XMMS.

So are there AdPlug and ModPlug plugins that will work with Audacious?

They are included within the "audacious-plugins" package. If your distribution doesn't provide prebuilt binaries, you may need to fetch the source tarball from the Audacious download site and build from source.
