ALSA Error in Audacious 3.2.4

Added by Gary Walker about 10 years ago

Sound plays fine but I get this error every time I start Audacious.

ALSA error:
No suitable mixer element found.
snd_mixer_find_selem failed

Sound also works fine in the xmms2. I'm not sure what other info you need so just let me know if I need to post anything additional.

In case it's relevant I'm using Xfce4 4.8 on Debian wheezy.

Go into the ALSA Output Settings window and check what devices Audacious is using.

Settings which should work on most systems are:

PCM device: "default"
Mixer device: "default"
Mixer element: "Master" or "PCM"

See if those settings work for you. It's also possible that the mixer element list will be empty, which means you have a problem with your ALSA driver or configuration.

John Lindgren:

I changed the Mixer device off of default and now I don't get the error and I still get music. Thank you for your help!

Hmm, "default" is generally the one you want, but whatever works ...
