Audacious won't show embedded Ogg Vorbis cover art

Added by Gilad Pellaeon about 10 years ago

Hi there. Has anyone who plays ogg vorbis files noticed that Audacious has stopped showing embedded cover art? I seem to recall around a year ago it worked fine and Audacious displayed cover art in Lubuntu 13.04. But, no matter what distro i've tried, and i've tried Ubuntu/Xubuntu/Lubuntu 13.10/14.04, Linux Mint XFCE 16, even tried the latest non beta windows version of Audacious on my old Windows XP install and audacious will just not show the cover art. Whereas for example running Foobar, a semi popular Windows media player program, it displays the embedded cover art with no problems whatsoever. The cover art is embedded with a program called Mp3tag

Overall i'm just curious if i'm the only one who has encountered this or is it something that's maybe changed with how the various distro's have been handling ogg vorbis files? I can't recall what version of Audacious came with Lubuntu 13.04 but that version had displayed embedded cover art with no problems.

Last I tried (maybe a month ago) it was working fine. Can you provide a test file that does not work for you?

Yes I can - here's a link to an ogg vorbis file from my dropbox account

And here's a screenshot showing how Audacious is behaving when playing the file. The audio plays great it just won't show the embedded album art. This was taken on my windows xp install with the latest windows (non beta) version and it behaves the same way for me currently in any linux distro i've tried as mentioned above.

Try 3.5-beta1. As noted in the release announcement [1], one of the bugs fixed is "Ogg Vorbis files with tags larger than 256 KB not recognized correctly". (Your file has a 1.2 MB tag.)

I'll probably hold off on trying 3.5 beta 1 for now as I was able to uninstall my current version, then compile from source and tried to run it and it wouldn't load, so I gave up at that point and had a heck of a time removing the beta so I could reinstall the current version.

Well, it turns out I missed compiling the plugin sources as well, which did make Audacious 3.5 load, but it was missing all the audio plugins it seems to decode ogg vorbis, mp3's etc. Which brings me the next question - is the 3.5 beta even supposed to be compiled on top of 3.43 already installed or was I right (or wrong) in un-installing the non beta version first?
