remembering song position on program launch

Added by diziet sma about 10 years ago

in the forum is a question regarding this and the answer to 'how to get audacious to remember the song position' is to select 'continue playback on startup',
however that doesn't do what i want. and furthermore i definitely recall that in the past the behaviour i want was in fact what i got, namely - for audacious to launch, but not start playing until i tell it to, and when it does start playing to resume from the last song position.

my desktop environment is configured to have audacious start up on a workspace when i login, and using audtool i have shortcut keys that control the program no matter what else i'm doing or what workspace i'm on, in the past i always started playing manually after logging in and the song or audiobook took off from the last played position.

my version of audacious is 3.4.2 on mageia4 previously i had mageia2 but i don't know what version of audacious that had.

am i missing something? has there been a subtle change in how audacious works?

alternatively is there a way using audtool to launch audacious and have it automatically pause? i've been experimenting but had no joy with this

You must have been using Audacious 3.3 before, since that was the only version that would start up with the song paused at the last played position. Versions before and after 3.3 always start up in a completely stopped state (unless you check "continue playback on startup"). In 3.4 and later, the normal way to resume playing from the last played position is the "play this playlist" command (Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut, shortened to Shift-Enter in 3.5, or double-click on a playlist tab). The corresponding audtool command is "play-current-playlist", but it was only added in 3.5. So unfortunately I don't know of any way to accomplish what you want with Audacious 3.4. You could either revert to 3.3, or update to 3.5.1 and bind your shortcut key to "audtool play-current-playlist".

i see, thankyou for the explanation, i will see if 3.5.1 is in mageia cauldron and if so try and compile for mga4, given the name of the audtool command "play-current-playlist" i suspect that it will start the playing but not pause it? that's easy to work around though, just make another shortcut :)
