Speed/Pitch sounds strange when speeding up audio and maintaining pitch

Added by private huff about 4 years ago

I just discovered this program and i love it!

But one of the main features i wanted to use is the speed/pitch plugin to playback at faster than normal speed. I use this for podcasts, just to speed it up by 10/20/30%. It does work, and makes the audio faster, but it also makes it sound "strange". The effect sounds likes like a "chorus" effect, almost like the audio is doubled with a very small offset (like 5 or 10 ms). Other programs (VLC for example) seem to be able to speed up playback with much less distortion to the sound. I've tried messing with settings as well as with the sample rate and other things, to try to get this to go away, but with no luck.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing and could confirm? And possibly suggest something i could to counteract?

I am on windows 10 if that helps.

That's basically what the effect does. It's a very simple/naive algorithm and doesn't produce the best results. There's really no way to make it better without implementing something more complicated (probably FFT-based).
