kbps shown for FLAC files

Added by Valentin Desfray over 12 years ago

Hi, I think there is a problem on 3.2.1 version as the kbps shown for FLAC files is fonction of the lenght of the file. What I mean is that I expect the kbps to be the same for a complete album ripped altogether (Am I wrong ?). Is it normal that the kbps is fonction of the lenght (then why "kilo bits PER SECOND" ?) ?

I'm under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Thank you

Without looking at the source code, for FLAC files it sounds plausible that the average bitrate is a function of the file length. More strictly, the bitrate would not be a constant for the entire file, but a value that varies every second depending on the efficiency of the FLAC compression for a second's sample data (i.e. how much encoded input data get decoded to fill a second of audio output).

Thank you for your answer. It is much clearer now. However, I feel like (even if it would not be the most necessary tool of the universe) the kbps given for FLAC files should be variable.
