Audacious

I assume since you mentioned Samba that the files are on an SMB share. Do you mount the SMB share on the Linux box using FUSE, or do you pass the smb:// URI directly to Audacious?

Before all I've needed to do is click on the file and it plays. The MP3s play over the network using VLC, and files on a local drive play on Audacious without issue. It's the "One minute here, next minute gone!" thing that's annoying.

I agree that it's nice when things work out of the box. However, if you want any help getting your networked playback to work, you will have to provide more information than, "It used to work and now it doesn't."

What do you need to know? I browse the network using Nautilus, mount the share using Nautilus, click the file in Nautilus! One day it worked, the next day it didn't. I had changed nothing. There is nothing on this issue anywhere that I've been able to find on the web so I came here asking for advice. VLC plays the files without any problem from a network share on another machine, but Audacious doesn't. I'm using the 3.2.0-19 Kernel with the Enlightenment desktop and Nautilus file manager. If you want more details let me know what you need and I'll tell you.

I don't use Nautilus and don't know how it does things, so I guess I can't help you if you don't know. Sorry.
