Default sort order?

Added by Chris ODonnell almost 10 years ago

Is there a way to set a default sort order on playlists? I use Audacious by opening directories which represent albums. For some directories, the sort order on open is not by track number, and I have to do it manually. Audacious does not remember the selection. My ID3 tags are in good shape - that is not the problem, as selecting sort by track number will result in the songs played in the proper order. I can't figure out why it doesn't always work that way without manual intervention. I'm running 3.2.4 on Debian Wheezy.

Thanks,
Chris

I wanted to ask this exact same question and found this thread opened 5 years ago... could not find the answer to it in any other thread... I am running Audacious 3.9 on Ubuntu 18. If it only kept the last sort criteria it would be very nice.

The default sort order is always by file path; there is currently no way to change that. Adding other options is in theory possible but not simple, since file tags are currently read after the files are added to the playlist.

Although minor, this is a niggle which frequently bites.

I often use the "Play" feature of the search tool and this often means audacious starts playing the middle of an album, rather than the first track.

One possible solution is to name your files starting with the track number. Some common CD ripping programs and MP3 download sites already do this.

This is really bugging me every time i want to listen to an album as a whole.

Would it be possible to have a setting, something like, "add albums in track number order", where tags are read ahead of time?

What do other players do to solve this?
