Share audacious playlists and preferences in common folder (for Windows and Linux in dual boot configuration)
Added by Pascual Lucero almost 13 years ago
Hello,
First at all, thanks for this wonderful player. I was happy with Winamp in Windows, but then I discovered Audacious in Linux and found it much better for my needs, to the point that I installed Audacious in Windows and have never looked back :)
Well, this generates my situation. I am using a computer which has Windows and Linux installed. And some programs I use frequently (for example Firefox and Thunderbird) allow me to choose the folder in which my profile settings are stored, so I can use the same configuration for both operating systems.
As Audacious is one of these programs I use frequently, I would like to use the same playlists in both operating systems. It is possible to change the Audacious folder that saves playlists and preferences in Windows and Linux and make a new "default folder" (of course, one that can be accessed from Windows and Linux)?
Thanks in advance.

Sure, on your Linux drive, make ~/.config/audacious a symbolic link to the Windows configuration folder (which should be something like /mountpoint/Users/<name>/Local Settings/Application Data/audacious).

Thanks for your answer, but I have a question (btw, I don't know how to create symbolic links). I would like to choose the default folder not in the default Windows configuration folder, but another one (for example, my dropbox folder, or something like D:/audacious in Windows). So, besides creating a symbolic link from Linux, I need to change the configuration folder in Windows.
I guess I can read how can I do this in my Linux drive, but also need to change that in my Windows drive (perhaps an environment variable in Windows to change that?).
I am grateful for more information in order to complete these operations. And thanks in advance for your attention!

I haven't tested this, but I think you want the following environment variables:
XDG_CONFIG_HOME on Linux (http://standards.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/latest/ar01s03.html)
CSIDL_LOCAL_APPDATA on Windows (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb762494%28v=vs.85%29.aspx)

Thanks, I will try to do this procedure with the information available. I will ask again in case something goes wrong.
