The new version of Audacious (3.5 beta) link for Windows is not working and a problem with m4a files

Added by Pascual Lucero over 10 years ago

Hello,

Thanks for this wonderful program and the very important changes made in Windows version. Now I can use Audacious as my default player in Windows.

On the other hand, in the latest version I use (3.5 alpha1) for Windows I cannot play m4a files.

Thanks for your attention

The link should be working now. Sorry about that. The same thing happened once before: somewhere between copying the .zip from my Windows partition and uploading it to the server, the permissions get messed up, hence the "403 Forbidden" error.

Let me know if the .m4a files are still not working in beta1.

Hello,

The link is working now (thanks!), Audacious looks better in Windows (specially the fonts), but I have found a couple of problems in the new version:

1) m4a files are not working. As an attachment I show an example which works perfectly in all other media players I use.

2) I would like to change the interface language. My Windows 8 configuration has spanish as default language and now Audacious is shown in spanish, but I prefer to use English as default. Is there an option to change this? (perhaps it can be done editing some configuration file instead of using the interface for now).

Thanks for your attention

Yeah, that was fixed just recently, see:

;)

I'd like to know that as well!

Well, you can change the language to English by deleting the /share/locale folder. How to change to a different language, I'm not sure.

Thanks it worked (at least to change the language to English). And hopefully the problem with m4a files would be easy to solve. From now on, Audacious is my default music program in Windows (it was already the default in Linux). This font improvement and specially the solution of the issue to open Audacious in a running instance in Windows were wonderful news for me. Thanks

You can force a different language for all GTK applications on Windows by working on the LANG environment variable.
For example, if you would like to show Audacious in english, you must add (or modify) to your environment:

LANG=en_US

The syntax of the LANG environment variable is described into the GNU gettext, if I'm not mistaken.
This will affect all GTK applications; if you want to do it only for Audacious, you must write a batch file so that it adds this variable only for that instance and then it launches Audacious, or doing it manually with CMD.

Regarding the attached .m4a
It's a "dash" file, typically downloaded from youtube using something like youtube-dl.
Audacious will not play these files (thru 3.5~beta1) though most other players will, possibly audacious -V would show why
(if one simply runs these dash type .m4a's thru ffmpeg, (-c:a copy), then aud is fine with the output .m4a
