Equalizer per-file autoload -- do you use it?

Added by John Lindgren about 9 years ago

Sometime in the next few weeks, I'm planning on porting/reimplementing the equalizer preset code (which is currently part of the Winamp interface only) so that it works from GTKUI as well. My impression is that very few (if any) people understand or use the "auto preset" feature. In fact, the only reference to it I found is from a user who was confused by it and considered it a "malfunction" [1]. So my question: Do you use this feature? Is it worth porting/reimplementing along with the rest of the preset code, or can we drop it?

Could you please explain briefly what "auto preset" does?
Is it related to the "AUTO" button in the equalizer?
I have never understood the meaning of it.

I think hardly anyone understands what it does. It allows you to save an equalizer preset for an individual song file that will be loaded automatically when you play that file again. Unfortunately, the code was very tied in with the skinned UI, and it was left there when the UI code was split off into a plugin for Audacious 2.0. Since then it has suffered a lot of bitrot. I don't think it has worked right in many of our recent releases.

In this case I think it is appropriate to remove the feature.

Yes, John, I'd vote for this - I was just trying the other day wishing for this. I have several streams I listen to regularly. Some seem to already be "equalized", others not, so I have to turn off (flat-line) the eq for the former and on for the latter. Wish I could save eq settings, at least for individual streams! I use the WinAmp interface and also notice now that the "Auto" button on the skinned vsn. of eq. does nothing. You are also right a/b this being confusing - wished there were some documentation / how-tos too!

Jim
