Dark GTK Theme that works

Added by Daniel Bedrenko over 7 years ago

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone found a dark GTK theme that actually works with audacious? I've tried at least a dozen, and most look correct on other GTK apps, but Audacious is always the exception and looks horrible (e.g. the text in the tabs is dark so you can't read it on the dark background). There used to be one theme 2 years ago that worked great, but you know GTK: they break API often so it no longer works.

I've attached 3 screenshots of how Audacious looks under 3 popular GTK themes.

Based on the comment about breaking API, I assume you're still using a GTK3 version of Audacious? I suggest switching to the GTK2 version and finding a good GTK2 theme; I expect there are plenty around since that API hasn't changed in a decade or so ...

My bad, I should've mentioned I'm using latest Audacious, v3.7.2 (which uses GTK2). I have installed and am using themes that provide GTK2 counterparts. I think what happened was the theme worked for the period that Audacious was ported to GTK3, and it broke since it went back to GTK2.

Does anyone know a dark theme that works with Audacious?

Arc-Dark looks fine for me, different than in your screenshot. Do you use the latest version?

Wow, that's beatiful. Thanks for letting me know, because now I know the problem is on my end. Yes, I use the latest official release, version "20160605-1". I just tried the git latest and it looks the same. Do you think it's because you use a Desktop Environment like GNOME, and I don't run one (I use just AwesomeWM)?

I am using a desktop environment (Xfce) but do not know if this is the explanation.
